After a skateboarding accident, thirteen-year-old Hugo gains magical superpowers and quickly becomes the coolest kid in school. However, his sudden rise in popularity strains his bond with his best friend Tom, and soon he must choose between staying popular or holding on to true friendship.
Directors Marta Selecka and Andra Doršs bring a wealth of experience from their successful collaboration on the beloved Latvian children's series Tutas lietas, which recently launched its 14th season, along with the children’s detective series Emī un Rū. Tutas Lietas was developed to create high-quality, sweet, and educational screen content for kids in Latvia, and since 2020, it has been adapted in various countries, including Nanny Tuta in English, Tottas Saker in Swedish, Tuta Asjad in Estonian, and a dubbed version in Turkish titled Mutlu Tuta.
Now, the directors have united their talents to create their latest project for tweens and their parents: the feature film BOOM!
Directors’ Vision:
In a world where teenagers increasingly navigate their childhood through digital devices and online interactions, often leading to a disconnect from peers and real-life experiences, BOOM! presents a vibrant, magical adventure that highlights the significance of genuine connections and friendships. The film invites young audiences to empathize with the protagonist's journey and struggles.
The superpowers central to the narrative are brought to life with captivating special effects and dynamic sound design. Reflecting the film's editing and visual style, the carefully curated soundtrack—featuring hip-hop, indie, and pop music—is intentionally eclectic and playfully exaggerated.
Rich with comedic moments, the film’s engaging storyline and lighthearted tone make it accessible and enjoyable for a broad audience, resonating with both children and their parents alike.
