Renars, an R&R fan and scammer, finds himself committed to a mental asylum. In a bid for survival, he initiates an underground jean manufacturing operation within the asylum, forming an unlikely alliance with the Director. Promising Renars freedom in exchange for a share of the profits, the duo sees success as the jeans gain popularity, turning Renars into an anonymous underground legend.
As the venture thrives, the KGB sets its sights on Renars, but their attempts to corner him prove futile due to lack of evidence. The conflict between Renars and KGB agent Maris escalates beyond the realm of jeans and criminal accusations. It transforms into a deep-seated clash of life ideologies and a poignant form of protest.
"Soviet Jeans" has garnered an impressive 12 nominations for the 2024 Lielais Kristaps (Big Kristaps) Latvian National Film Awards. The recognition reflects the film's outstanding contributions and excellence in various categories, marking a significant achievement in the cinematic landscape.
